How to score constructed response questions manually or using AI ?

Each student’s entry must be scored individually for extended/constructed responses.

Student view: Student once completes the test, status appears to be 'On Process' until teacher grades the activity.

Teachers can grade activity from various options:

1. Within the Instruct section, from Overall Speed Grader located on the top right hand above all the course tiles.

2. Within the course, from Speed Grader located on the top right hand side.

3. Within the course, from 'Home' page under 'Activities to Grade'.

4. Within the course, from 'Learning' page, selecting 'Progress' option against each activity.

Grade activity from Learning page:

  • Once logged in to Focal Point, teacher lands on the home screen.
  • Within 'Learning' section, click on 'Instruct'.
  • List of courses will be displayed in form of Tiles. Select the required course.



  • Go to 'Learning' page within the course.

  • Against the selected assessment, click on the more actions (3 dots).



  • Click on 'Progress' from the options.



  • Within the Activity Progress page, under 'Activity Details', teacher need to click on the 'Score' button under Status/Performance column.

     





  • It will redirect to the page where teacher can manually score or select 'Get AI score & Feedback'.



Manual Scoring

  • Select the score based on the rubrics (you can scroll down the page, you can find below the feedback field). The Rubric provides success criteria for each level of scoring and sample responses as well.

  • Enter the score in the 'Score' field and provide the feedback if required.

     



  • Click on 'Submit Scoring' once all responses are scored.



  • You will receive a waiting request before updating the score.

  • The score will be then updated for the question.

     

Get AI score & Feedback

  • Here we have an option to generate AI score and feedback based on the question and response provided.
  • Click on 'Get AI score & Feedback'



  • Based on the question and response provided by student, the AI response with total score and feedback will be generated. Here we have two options:
    1 - Agree
    2 - Disagree



  • Agree: When you hit 'Agree' total score and feedback will be reflected on the 'Score' and 'Feedback' fields.
    Please note: You can make changes manually to the reflected AI response score and feedback.



  • Disagree: This will return to the main page for manual scoring.
  • Once done, click on 'Submit Scoring' to grade the activity.



  • You will receive a waiting request before updating the score.



  • The score will be then updated for the question.



  • Go back to the Activity Progress.
  • You can view the score and level under Status/Performance. Click on the band. It will redirect to the test summary.



  • Teachers can print the page by clicking on print icon at the top right corner of the page.



Grade activity from Home page :

  • You can also select the assessment from the Home page, under 'Activities to Grade' and grade the activity accordingly.
