An Evidence-Based Selected Response (EBSR) combines a traditional selected-response question with a follow-up question that requires students to cite evidence from a related text to support their initial answer.

  • From the left menu, go to Resources section and select 'Questions'.
  • Click on 'Add New Question'.

  • Choose the question type as 'Evidence-Based Selected Response (EBSR)'.

  • You can decide whether to make the question private or public, assign a title to it, and fill the other fields if required.
  • An EBSR question requires an associated narrative or passage for students to read.
  • Click on 'Associate Passage'.

  • Add the passage by click on '+' icon against the passage.
  • Then select 'Continue & Save' to associate the passage to your question.

  • Once the passage is in place, enter the Accuracy question and the Evidence question, provide multiple answer choices, and select the correct response for both questions.

  • Within the Response Process, review the key (correct answer) for both Accuracy and Evidence Response processing, possible points, etc and make changes if needed.

  • Once done, click on 'Save' to add the EBSR question to the item bank.
